Root ability of Thuja orientalis L. Cuttings as Affected by Different Indole-3-Butyric Acid Concentrations and Rooting Media
Thuja oriantalis cuttings were dipped for 15 second in aqueous solution of indole-3-butyric acid (IBA) at 0, 2500, 5000 and 7500 ppm and immediately planted in rooting media of peat moss (P) or sand (S) individually or in combination (P: S at a mixture ratio of 1:1 or 2:1 v/v) during 2023/2024 and 2024/2025 seasons to define the most suitable combined treatment of IBA and rooting media in stimulating root development and growth. Result showed that IBA at 5000 ppm was the most effective in increasing the rooting percentage (60 %). Meanwhile, the control (0 ppm) was the worst since failed to root (0%). The mixture of 1P:1S resulted in the highest rooting percentage (54 %). The combination of two best treatments achieved the maximum rooting percentage (67%) that accompanied with the favorable root parameters. However, the other combinations produced intermediate results (49%). The anatomical structure of cuttings bases appearsed a negative relationship between rootability sclerenchyma cells.
