Improving Sleep Apnea Therapy Outcomes with DreamVent

Obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) is a common disorder characterized by recurrent episodes of upper airway collapse during sleep, resulting in periodic oxygen desaturation and sleep arousals.Untreated OSA leads to adverse cardiovascular, neurocognitive, and metabolic outcomes and comorbidities that can impair quality of life, impact patient safety, and result in substantial economic effects.A limited number of therapeutic options are available to maintain upper airway patency during sleep, including lifestyle modifications, positional therapy, upper airway surgery, positive airway pressure devices [e.g., continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP) systems], and oral appliances.Pioneering research and development have led to the development of novel oral appliance therapies as alternatives to previously preferred CPAP therapy. This article is a succinct review of clinical features, pathophysiology, and traditional and emerging therapies for OSA.

Abstract
