Performance analysis of soil vapor extraction through a single vertical well for the remediation of soil Trichloroethylene pollution
• We established a numerical model of SVE system through a single vertical well. • Desirable pollution remediation performance can be obtained under suitable conditions. • The extraction TCE mass rate decreases from 0.21kg/s to about 0 in 0.05 year. • The energy efficiency decreases from 194.21kg/kJ to 0 in the first 0.05 year. • The single vertical well system shows high remediation efficiency. Soil organic pollution has been a serious threat to agricultural safety in China. It is of great practical significance to research and develop efficient organic pollution remediation technology for soil environmental protection. Soil vapor extraction (SVE) is an important technology for the remediation of organic pollution. However, there is a lack of systematic and in-depth research on its performance characteristics and influencing factors. In this study, a conceptual model of SVE system based on single vertical well under typical soil environment was constructed, the corresponding numerical model was established, and the performance characteristics and influencing factors of the system were analyzed by numerical method. The results show that the extraction TCE saturation decreases from 0.30 to 0 in 0.05 year, and the effective time of TCE remediation in soil was about 0.05 year. The bottomhole pressure decreases from 101.33 kPa to 94.48 kPa on the first day, and then gradually increases. The corresponding pump power increases from the initial value of 1.08 W to the maximum value of 7.93 W in 0.05 year, and then begins to slowly decrease; The extraction TCE mass rate is maximum at the beginning, 0.21 kg/s, and then gradually decreases to about 0 in 0.05 year. The energy efficiency of the SVE system gradually decreases from 194.21 kg/kJ to 0 in the first 0.05 year, and then remains unchanged at 0 level. The sensitivity analysis indicates that the soil porosity, soil permeability and the extraction mass rate have significant influence on the remediation performance.
