Amid shutdown, fears of effects of H.R. 1 intensify
The federal government has been shut down for more than two weeks because of an impasse between Republican and Democrat legislators over two big provisions of H.R. 1: cuts to Medicaid, and cuts to the Affordable Care Act. Both programs support substance use disorder (SUD) treatment and prevention. Republicans wanted a continuing resolution and promised they would consider the Democrats' concerns after it was signed. Democrats don't trust the Republicans and are holding out. Each party is accusing the other of the shutdown, and the White House is blaming Democrats on almost every federal website. So we will not have any federal officials commenting on this article.
