Experimental investigation on reinforcement performance of concrete slab with three-dimensional high-strength steel-wire-mesh

Three-dimensional high-strength steel-wire-mesh (3D-HSWM) has been proven as a potential alternative of reinforcement material of steel wire mesh in the non-slab concrete members. Inspired by previous reinforcement studies at non-slab concrete members, 3D-HSWM is integrated into the concrete slab to develop an innovation reinforcement technique, which is named “concrete slab reinforced by 3D-HSWM” in this paper. From the comparative perspective of load-deflection curves, crack progression, structural ductility, and energy-absorption capabilities, a rigorous four-point bending experimental test is implemented to explore the influences of multiple factors, including the reinforcement ratio, weaving type, arrangement, and concrete types on the reinforcement performance of concrete slabs with 3D-HSWM. The test results revealed two key findings. Firstly, concrete slab with 3D-HSWM improves its ductility and crack control capabilities by 1.2 to 1.8 times compared to traditional reinforced concrete. Secondly, the reinforcement effect is more pronounced when using type b 3D-HSWM woven along the long axis in conjunction with high-performance concrete. Additionally, a calculation model for the flexural strength of concrete slab reinforced by 3D-HSWM was established by incorporating modifications that account for the effects of three-dimensional structure and woven nodes.
