Closed-Form Magneto-thermoelastoplastic Stress Analysis of Thick-Walled Cylindrical Shells

This paper presents an analytical thermo-elastoplastic investigation of a homogeneous cylindrical shell subjected to a uniform axial magnetic field under steady thermal conditions. The material behavior is modeled using a linear elastic–perfectly plastic constitutive law, and the infinitesimal theory of magneto-thermo-elastoplasticity is employed to derive expressions for displacement, stress, and magnetic field perturbation. Plastic deformation is evaluated based on the Tresca yield criterion and the associated flow rule. A numerical case study is performed to assess the influence of magnetic field intensity and thermal loading on stress distribution and the extent of the plastic zone. The results indicate that increasing magnetic intensity expands the plastic zone, eventually leading to a fully plastic state, while stress analysis reveals tensile radial, transitioning circumferential, and compressive axial stresses.
