Ultraviolet-induced fluorescence dermoscopy of scabies mite-gallery unit: three patients in the same family
Scabies is a common parasitic infection caused by Sarcoptes scabiei var. hominis, with approximately 300 million cases annually worldwide. Ultraviolet-induced fluorescence dermoscopy (UVFD) offers additional contrast compared with traditional dermoscopy, facilitating the visualization of burrows and other features that aid in diagnosing scabies, particularly in patients with equivocal cases. In this report of scabies in three members of the same family, UVFD helped identify the live mite, which was not visible through conventional dermoscopy, thus establishing an important role for UVFD in the noninvasive diagnosis of diseases of public health importance.
