The chloroplast genome of Taxus sumatrana, an endangered medicinal tree from Indonesia

The circular cp. genome of T. sumatrana is 129,227 bp in length. Consistent with other members of the Taxus genus, it lacks the typical inverted repeat (IR) regions commonly found in chloroplast genomes. A total of 119 genes were annotated, including 81 protein-coding genes, 34 transfer RNAs (tRNAs), and 4 ribosomal RNAs (rRNAs). Among 118 genes, 15 genes are containing introns. Additionally, 115 simple sequence repeats (SSRs) were identified, with mononucleotide repeats being the most abundant (77.4%). Phylogenetic analysis based on 24 complete cp. genomes showed that T. sumatrana is most closely related to T. mairei, forming a strongly supported clade within the Taxus genus.
