AOCL-CST - A new CPU Stress Test library for AMD CPUs

In this paper we present a new highly efficient CPU Stress Test library called AOCL-CST targeted for x86 processors in general and AMD processors in particular. This library is designed for stressing the CPU cores and/or memory sub-systems and is based on numerical methods instead of the Fast Fourier Transform (FFT) based standard solutions. We have integrated AOCL-CST with curve optimizer of the AMD Ryzen™ Master tool which is an overclocking software for AMD CPUs requiring a stress test tool to tune the AVFS curve. In this paper, we discuss the design and benefits of the AOCL-CST library that enables efficient stressing of the CPU and allows more accurate detection of the CPU instabilities at smaller PSM offsets. Our implementation results show that AOCL-CST offers a better stress testing solution by stressing the CPU quickly and detecting the stability errors early.
