First‐In‐Human Implantation of <scp>CorWave</scp> ’s Next‐Gen <scp>Left Ventricular Assist Device</scp> —Has a New Era in Long‐Term Mechanical Circulatory Support Just Begun?
ABSTRACT In contemporary times, millions of people suffer from heart failure worldwide. Among these, for patients with end‐stage heart failure, transplantation or implantation of long‐term left ventricular assist devices (LVADs) often represents the only viable therapeutic options. On May 28, 2025, Dr. Paul Jansz and his team at St. Vincent Hospital in Sydney implanted the first CorWave LVAD in a patient. This innovative device features an undulating membrane, which sustains circulation and may represent a milestone in LVAD technology, thus potentially significantly improving patient outcomes.
