Communication‐Free Adaptive Control of Cascaded‐Type VSGs With a Power Derivative Term

ABSTRACT This paper tackles the issue of frequency and power oscillations in cascaded‐type virtual synchronous generators (CVSGs) within microgrids. To address this challenge, a communication‐free adaptive control strategy is proposed that incorporates a locally derived power derivative term as an adaptive damping correction. This term promotes dynamic frequency alignment by causing higher frequency VSGs to decelerate and lower frequency VSGs to accelerate, enabling rapid frequency convergence during transience. As a result, oscillations in frequency and power are effectively dampened. Additionally, the approach is fully communication‐free, adaptive, and compatible with both resistance–inductance and resistance–capacitance load types. Stability evaluation, simulation studies, and experimental results collectively confirm the proposed method's effectiveness.
