Is Self‐Reference Possible?

ABSTRACT I consider a view under which expressions are endowed with meaning rather than being assigned a meaning. I argue that self‐reference is still possible under such a view but that it requires fundamental changes in our understanding of quotation, definition and the principle of compositionality.
