An App-based Simulation of a Toroidal Metasurface Solar Absorber

To achieve efficient utilization of solar energy and simplify the design process of metasurface absorbers, this study proposes a novel App-based design method. Using this method, a metasurface solar absorber composed of a zirconium (Zr) ring array is designed and validated. The absorber adopts a classic metal-insulator-metal (MIM) three-layer structure, consisting of a top periodic Zr ring layer, an intermediate silicon dioxide (SiO<inf xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink">2</inf>) dielectric layer, and a bottom gold (Au) reflective layer. Simulation results show that within the broad wavelength range of $300-2500 \mathrm{~nm}$, the average absorption rate of the absorber reaches $92.4 \%$, with a near-perfect absorption peak of $98.4 \%$ at 412 nm. Additionally the effects of varying the ring height and structural period on absorption performance are investigated. Based on these findings, this study demonstrates that the App-driven design method has great potential in accelerating device optimization and lowering research and development barriers.
