Toward 6G-V2X: Edge-Assisted Platoon Coordination for Cooperative Intersection Control
This paper presents the implementation and evaluation of a centralized platooning algorithm for autonomous vehicles using Cellular Vehicle-to-Everything (C-V2X) communication and Multi-access Edge Computing (MEC) within a future-ready 6G network framework. The goal is to improve intersection throughput and reduce vehicle waiting time through coordinated control. The proposed method groups vehicles into platoons based on dynamic parameters, enabling synchronized movement and more efficient intersection management. Simulations were conducted under various traffic densities and intersection types to evaluate performance. Results show that the platooning approach improves traffic flow and increases throughput. The findings highlight the potential of edge-based C-V2X platooning in 6G-enabled intelligent transportation systems as a scalable and effective solution for next-generation mobility.
