A Simple Transmission Line Demonstrator for Undergraduate Electromagnetics Syllabus
In many undergraduate Electromagnetics courses, the theory of transmission lines is a starting point because of its simplicity. Nevertheless, students often have difficulty visualizing basic physical phenomena such as standing waves because they are function of both space and time. Here we report on a simple hardware demonstrator inspired by a classical slotted line measurement that allows students to clearly grasp all basic physical phenomena by examining the current and voltage waveforms at any point on the transmission line. Different versions of this demonstrator are used in undergraduate teaching and are very well received by students.
