Bronchial Anthracostenosis: A Rare Entity

Bronchial anthracostenosis is a little known entity characterized by the deposition of anthracotic pigment in the bronchial mucosa associated with stenosis. We report the case of a 36-year-old woman with no significant medical history, progressive disease and findings in chest computed tomography suggestive of granulomatosis. Fiberoptic bronchoscopy showed extensive areas of anthracotic pigmentation with significant bronchial stenosis, confirming the diagnosis of bronchial anthracostenosis. Given the low prevalence and limited knowledge of this disease in our setting, we believe it is important that the medical community is informed, in order to improve its identification and differential diagnosis.
