Innovative nautical component designed by integration of topology optimization, lattice structures and continuous glass fiber manufacturing

This study explores the application of Continuous Fiber Manufacturing (CFM) technology in conjunction with lattice structures and topology optimization for the development of an innovative nautical component. Leveraging the fundamentals of Design for Additive Manufacturing (DfAM), combination of continuous fiber 3D printing processing aims to improve the overall functionality and efficacy of the component: CFM enables layer-by-layer manufacturing of continuous reinforcement fibers saturated with thermoset matrix systems and their orientation in space to construct three-dimensional parts so to optimize the final component’s structural integrity and mechanical behavior. Topology optimization techniques are employed to refine the component's geometry, ensuring an optimal distribution of material for improved functionality. Additionally, the integration of lattice structures further contributes to weight reduction without compromising strength, facilitating the development of complex and lightweight designs. The study demonstrates the synergistic effects of these technologies in advancing nautical component design, showcasing the potential for increased durability, reduced weight, and enhanced overall performance in marine applications. The outcomes of this research work offer significant insights for the integration of CFM, lattice structures, and topology optimization in the nautical engineering sector, offering a promising avenue for the development of innovative and efficient marine components.
