Covenants and Security Pacts and Their Effect on Ending the military Conflict in the Abbasid Era 132 – 193AH | 749 – 808AG A Historic Study

This study sheds light on the covenants and pacts of security to end up the military conflict in the Abbasid era (132 – 192AH). Some of Abbasid Caliphs had purportedly adopted a new political approach incorporated in concluding covenants and security pacts with state adversaries to end up the military conflict. Such approach had been attributed to the weakness of the military at the onset of emergence of the Caliphate, together with having multiple battlefronts and uprisings associated with the transfer of caliphate from the Umayyads to the Abbasids. Also, the factual reality of the adversary had rendered the choice of policies of covenants and pacts the most viable solution to end up the military conflict. Therefore, the notorious Caliph Abu Al-Abbas As-Saffah adopted such policies and managed to overcome his adversaries and opponents – to name but a few is the Iraqi Governor at the era of the Umayyads named Yazid Bin Hubaira. Similarly, the Caliph Al-Mansour thrived to crush down the insurgent Abu Muslim Al-Khurasani; and the Caliph Ar-Rashid managed to achieve triumph over a number of insurgents, who had been prisoned till death. Against the backdrop of adopting such a policy, the Abbasid State had managed to triumph over its adversaries and opponents with the least confrontations and loss; and further thrived to maintain its existence.
