Bioinformatics analysis of the expression of TRIM31 mRNA and protein in pan-cancer tissues and their prognostic relevance

TRIM31 is a member of the tripartite motif (TRIM) protein family. However, its precise expression pattern and functional role in diverse cancer types remain unclear. This study aimed to analyze the role and clinical significance of TRIM31 in pan-cancer and gastric cancer (GC). We investigated the relationships between TRIM31 expression and multiple aspects, including immune infiltration, stemness index, and responses to chemotherapy and immunotherapy, and examined the association between TRIM31 expression and the prognosis of patients with GC. TRIM31 expression was elevated in most tumors. Further scrutiny revealed an association between TRIM31 expression and multiple tumor characteristics. Increased TRIM31 expression reduced the benefits of immunotherapy, which were positively correlated with all six stemness indices. The expression level of TRIM31 affected sensitivity to chemotherapeutic agents and was linked to prognosis in patients with GC. In both in vitro and in vivo models, TRIM31 promoted the proliferation, migration, and invasion of GC cells. Given its frequent overexpression in various malignancies, TRIM31 could represent a valuable indicator of poor prognosis and altered immune infiltration in individuals with cancer.
