A comparative analysis of recycled plastic materials in sustainable brick productions

In our day-to-day life, plastics play a major role and are a part of daily life usage. The construction industry is a significant contributor to environmental degradation, primarily due to high material consumption and waste generation. Sustainable brick production using recycled plastic waste and various natural and synthetic fibres has emerged as a promising solution to mitigate these impacts. This review synthesizes findings from 50 recent studies, evaluating the mechanical properties, thermal insulation, durability, and environmental implications of bricks incorporating different recycled materials. The integration of plastics such as PET, polyethylene, polypropylene, high density polyethylene. According to the study, traditional clay bricks can be replaced with more affordable and ecologically friendly plastic bricks. Experimental testing shows that they function better in terms of water absorption, efflorescence resistance, and decreased wetness. In addition to highlighting the potential of plastic bricks to support sustainable building practices, this comparative analysis offers directions for future research aimed at improving production methods and material blend optimization.
