Wechseljahre am Arbeitsplatz – Von der Tabuisierung zur praktischen Umsetzung in Unternehmen

Menopause in the workplace – From taboo to practical implementation in companies The topic of menopause is still often taboo in Germany. This social reality is also reflected in the world of work, where millions of women are confronted with the challenges of the menopause every day without adequate support or even the opportunity to talk openly about their situation. This topic is becoming increasingly relevant for occupational medicine. Demographic change and the rising employment rate of women over 50 are making the menopause an important health issue in the workplace. There are currently around 7.5 million working women in Germany in an age where the menopausal transition occurs - a figure that will continue to rise in the coming years. The economic dimension of this issue is considerable. The World Economic Forum puts the global potential of better women’s healthcare at one trillion US dollars annually by 2040. Part of this sum is also attributable to the workplace-related effects of menopause, from reduced absenteeism to increased productivity and employee retention.
