Harmonic Artistry
Abstract This article describes, analyses, and responds to the work of Mohamed A. Yakub, a photographer for more than forty years. Drawn to the camera's magical ability to, in his words, “capture light,” Yakub created a series of works that either capture the fleeting passage of light over time in long exposures with the camera in motion or transform architectural spaces into imaginative, otherworldly places, composing, mirroring and multiplying them vertically or horizontally. The artist's imagery often suggests or evokes Afrofuturistic places and spaces to be seen, imagined, and felt.
