COMPARATIVE MEDIA REPRESENTATION OF AFRICA: FRANCE 24 VERSUS AFRIQUE MEDIA

Nowadays, media constitutes an important tool of information as well as disinformation shaping at the same time people's perceptions and attitudes towards situation. The same thing is noticeable when it comes to how Africa is depicted in different media channels. This study examines the representation of Africa in France 24, a Western international news network, and Afrique Media, a pan-African media platform, over a one-month period, using a qualitative content analysis approach. The study also explores how each media channel portrays African political, economic, and social issues, focusing on themes such as political instability, economic development, and conflict. The findings reveal that France 24 often employs negative stereotypes about Africa, framing the continent in terms of crises, poverty, and conflict, reinforcing a narrative of instability. In contrast, Afrique Media uses more positive vocabularies, focusing on African achievements, growth, and regional successes.
