Exploring the impact of surgery interest groups on medical students’ career choices in low- and middle-income countries: a case study of the Khyber Medical College Surgery Interest Group
KMCSIG has emerged as a transformative platform for bridging gaps in surgical education and mentorship by challenging stereotypes and enhancing career aspirations in surgery among medical students. By addressing gender-specific issues and maximizing opportunities in a resource-limited context, KMCSIG serves as a model for establishing SIGs in LMICs. With further improvements, increased collaboration, and funding, KMCSIG has the potential to inspire a new generation of surgeons, thereby potentially changing the landscape of local and global surgical healthcare.
