An Analysis of Technological Trends in Safety Management Platforms Using Patent Data : Changes in Patent Classification Codes and Recent Trends
While various countermeasures against recent disasters and hazards have been explored, technological responses utilizing digital platforms have also been actively underway. This study, referring to such systems as 'safety management platforms', aimed to analyze technological trends in this field. For this purpose. domestic patents filed between 2000 and 2023 were collected and categorized by time period. The frequency of International Patent Classification (IPC) codes and the Revealed Technological Advantage (RTA) index were analyzed. Based on these results, Spearman rank correlation analysis and log-odds ratio analysis were conducted. The analysis revealed that from 2000 to 2017, key areas included transportation, communication, and data transmission. During the period from 2018 to 2020, unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) and drones emerged as prominent technologies. Since 2021, efforts have been made to develop intelligent smart platforms incorporating IoT, image processing, and artificial intelligence. The Spearman correlation analysis showed that the period of 2021-2023 exhibited negative correlations with previous periods, indicating a dramatic technological shift during this time. These findings suggest that recent technological approaches to safety management platforms differ from those of the past, and that development strategies and directions needs to be revised accordingly.
