Scattering of a Plane Electromagnetic Wave on an Infinite Dielectric Layer with Periodically Varying Thickness

This paper introduces the concept of utilizing Dielectric Frequency Selective Surfaces (DFSSs) as concentrators of alternating magnetic fields. It focuses on the reflection/transmission characteristics and regions of anomalous reflection under oblique incidence of primary plane electromagnetic waves. This study employs numerical simulations using the Method of Auxiliary Sources (MAS) to analyze DFSS structures consisting of periodic dielectric elements. Periodic models made of CER-10 material are examined to evaluate their resonance behavior. The results show that DFSSs can generate concentrated magnetic fields at resonance frequencies, making them promising candidates for applications involving plasma density control. The MAS method demonstrates high numerical accuracy in capturing these effects. The paper also presents a comparative analysis of two DFSS geometries with similar shapes-one with a continuous curvature and the other with a discretized version. This comparison aims to evaluate how geometric continuity, potentially influenced by fabrication methods, affects DFSS performance.
