Assessing the Effectiveness of a Serious Game for Enhancing Earthquake Reparedness
Game-Based learning refers to the application of gaming principles in real-life environments to engage users in learning specific skills or reach a learning outcome in a fun and dynamic way. Game-Based learning can be an essential tool in facilitating a playful and effective learning environment for users. Therefore, the work presented in this paper shall examine the effectiveness of game-based learning in teaching earthquake safety protocols by observing 20 players play D.C.H.S (Drop, Cover, Hold, Swing), a serious game and testing their retention of the safety protocols shown in the game and comparing their knowledge before and after playing the game through a series of questions, with the aim of determining the effectiveness of game-based learning through D.C.H.S. Our findings indicate that the game. Our findings indicate that the game has demonstrated various improvements in different aspects of learning and shows potential as an educational resource for teaching disaster preparedness protocols.
