A Method for Extracting Typical Operating Modes in Modern Power Systems Considering Voltage Stability
With the large-scale integration of wind and photovoltaic power, the traditional manual approach to extracting typical operating modes is no longer applicable to modern power systems. To address this, a novel method for extracting typical operating modes in modern power systems considering voltage stability is proposed in this paper. First, the typical characteristics of power systems are divided into steady-state and transient features. The typical steady-state features are extracted based on the inherent physical differences among various types of generators and loads within the system, while the typical transient features are derived from the system’s voltage response curves under representative disturbances. Next, an improved K-means clustering algorithm is used to group the large number of operating modes into different clusters. The initial cluster centers are selected using a density-based approach and the max–min distance principle. Then, a typical operating mode for each cluster is extracted using a simultaneous backward reduction algorithm that accounts for probabilistic distances. Finally, the effectiveness of the proposed method is validated using a real-world power system case study.
