Research on IGBT heat dissipation performance of wind turbine under high dust working conditions

There are a lot of dust particles mixed in the air in the northwest of China, which move with the air flow. The operating environment of wind farms in South Asia also has the same characteristics. The electric charge generated by dust particles will cause considerable electromagnetic interference to electrical equipment such as wind turbine converters, and the dust particles attached to the surface of electronic devices will seriously affect the heat output generated by insulated gate bipolar transistor (IGBT) operation. It is found that stratification occurs in sand-laden wind, and the dust particles with small size are usually above the dust particles with large size, and it takes about 60s for the dust particle concentration to reach a stable state during the development of sand-laden wind. At the same time, the distribution of dust particles is symmetrical about the geometric center of the tower, and the farther away from the IGBT structure center, the smaller the electric field, the larger the concentration, and the IGBT as the core component of the converter is relatively higher than other components in the cabinet, and the heat dissipation condition is poor. This research conclusion can provide engineering basis for improving the performance of the heat dissipation system of wind turbine under high dust conditions.
