Normative Gait Data for Surabaya Population: A Principal Component Analysis Approach Using Vicon Motion Capture
In this study, we investigate gait characteristics of healthy subjects from Telkom University Surabaya using advanced motion capture technology. We begin by screening participants through health questionnaires to confirm their eligibility. After briefing participants on the study procedures, we record personal information and anthropometric measurements, including height and body mass, to create a comprehensive profile for each subject. To capture accurate motion data, we carefully place reflective markers on specific anatomical landmarks. We analyze the range of motion (ROM) for the hip, knee, and ankle joints, finding that the hip moves approximately 35°, the knee around 50°, and the ankle approximately 30°. These values fall within expected norms for healthy individuals. In addition, we apply Principal Component Analysis (PCA) to identify primary movement patterns, revealing that the first principal component (PC1) captures essential transitions in joint motion, while the second principal component (PC2) highlights minor individual variations. PCA confirms the symmetry and balance between the left and right legs, indicating efficient and coordinated walking mechanics. Our findings provide valuable insights into typical gait patterns for the local population and serve as a reference for future studies in gait analysis and rehabilitation practices.
