Flaw Detection in Steel Wire Ropes via Magnetic Field Changes

This paper focuses on the efficient numerical modeling of the interaction between ferromagnetic materials and permanent magnets. The Method of Moments (MoM), based on Surface Integral Equations (SIE), is employed for the modeling. To achieve high computational efficiency in solving the resulting linear system of equations, Fast Iterative Solvers (FIS), specifically the Adaptive Cross Approximation (ACA) algorithm, are utilized. The validation of the obtained results was carried out by comparing them with both analytical calculations and measurements, confirming the model’s accuracy and reliability. As an application example, the detection of broken wires within steel ropes through magnetic field changes is presented, which represents a practical application in magnetic flaw detection.
