Multihop Data Transfer with Simple Scheduling in Wireless Sensor Networks

Wireless Sensor Networks (WSNs) need to be designed with energy efficiency in mind, especially for applications that need to run continuously in resource-constrained environments. An efficient multihop data transfer protocol enhanced with adaptive simple scheduling is proposed in this paper to reduce energy consumption and maintaining reliable communication. To achieve the best balance between network performance and energy efficiency, the protocol dynamically controls the operational states of sensor nodes, such as wake-up, transmit, receive, and sleep. The proposed approach demonstrates its advantages in power saving, packet delivery ratio, and latency over existing methods through simulations on Network Simulator 2 (NS2), a simulator widely used to evaluate network communication protocols. This paper proposes a deployable and scalable solution that supports reliable long-term operation under varying network conditions for a variety of WSN applications.
