Image Fusion for Wi-Fi AP localization

This paper proposes a mechanical scanning approach to RF source identification by fusing Wi-Fi signal strength data with visual information. The implemented system utilizes directional antennas to capture orthogonal signal components, Wi-Fi adapters to scan 2.4GHz bands for Received Signal Strength Indicator (RSSI) data, and a camera for visual data acquisition, all mounted on a 2-axis movement system controlled by an ESP32 and a PC. The system performs a scan routine, collecting RSSI values, antenna polarization, and physical coordinates, along with capturing images at defined azimuth and elevation steps. A post-processing routine then crops and stitches the images into a panoramic view and generates heatmaps of the Wi-Fi signal strength. Finally, these heatmaps are overlaid onto the panoramic image to create a visual representation of Wi-Fi signal distribution relative to the environment, enabling mapping of Access Point locations on a spatial image
