Multiple time-scale forecast scheduling of cascade hydropower stations considering two full power generation scenarios

In order to reduce the volume of water abandonment during a forecast scheduling process, this paper introduces two switchable full generation scenarios, i.e. "full power generation in advance to empty the reservoir capacity before the flood peak arrives" (scenario 1) and "full power generation when water level exceeds its limit" (scenario 2). Besides the input water volume forecast is data driven, which can be easily embedded into the receding optimization process. Five simulation models, which involve an ideal model and 4 forecast scheduling models, are constructed and emulated. Results show that the annual energy output of the forecast scheduling models with 2 full power generation scenarios can increase by more than 2%, while the annual generation revenue can increase by more than 5.8%, compared to the actual value (without forecast scheduling). In general, the optimization effect is obvious, with no significant increase in water abandonment.
