Planar Circularly Polarized Endfire Antenna Arrays With Wide Axial Ratio Bandwidth Based on Slotted Substrate Integrated Waveguide
In this article, a planar wideband circularly polarized endfire antenna array based on a slotted substrate integrated waveguide (SIW) and a linear tapered slot antenna (LTSA) is proposed. The unit antenna can be regarded as a combination of a leaky wave antenna (slotted SIW) and LTSA. It can provide vertically and horizontally polarized radiation, respectively. The additional radiation through the slot array boosts the axial ratio (AR) bandwidth of the antenna. The 3dB AR fractional bandwidth of the unit antenna reaches 16% at 22 GHz. Then 1-2 and 1-4 power divider feed networks are designed. The unit antennas are linearly arranged at the output of the feed network to form two circularly polarized (CP) endfire arrays, i.e., 1×2 and 1×4. The measured results show that the two antenna arrays have stable CP gains within 20.3 - 23.8 GHz (1×2 array) and 20.3 - 23.4 GHz (1×4 array), respectively. Good wideband circular polarization performance is demonstrated and validated.
