Electromagnetic selective surface filter manufactured by RoD 3D printing technology

In this paper, we propose a new on-demand reaction (RoD) 3D printing technology for printing high performance bulk electronic circuits, introducing a particle-free conductive system based on a non-toxic reductant functionalized polymer coating, which forms a highly conductive controlled coating by in-situ reduction of silver into a customized substrate. This allows the frequency selective surface filter (FSSF) to extend from the plane into the spatial volume (3DFSSF). Therefore, FSSF can be provided with more desired electromagnetic characteristics, for example, compared with its corresponding 2DFSSF, it has significantly stable filtering performance for different incident angles and polarization modes of electromagnetic waves independent of deflection. The proposed 3DFSSF has a wide bandwidth of 4.4-7.8GHz (fractional bandwidth of 54.8%) with a reflection coefficient of less than -10 db. Design criteria based on the equivalent circuit model (ECM) illustrate the transition of the 3DSS to the filter response. And it effectively guides the accurate conversion from the three-dimensional structure to the filter response. At the same time, the low-cost 3DFSSF manufacturing technology provides a strong technical support for the accurate regulation and efficient transmission of electromagnetic waves.
