Proactive risk management: oil and gas industry case study
<ns3:p>This study explains how to introduce Cyber- Physical Systems (CPS) into the Syrian oil and gas industry to improve safety, efficiency, and long-term sustainability. After the long ongoing war, the Syrian oil and gas industry faces a lot of challenges because of the aging and destroyed infrastructure, limited skilled workers, and exposure to cybersecurity threats. This situation needs modern technological systems to maintain and improve sector safety and productivity. CPS is suggested as a solution to handle these challenges, as an innovative approach integrating predictive analytics, real-time monitoring and automated decision-making. The paper examines obstacles to CPS implementation in Syria, focusing on the need for robust cybersecurity, infrastructure improvements and local expertise. To treat these issues, the methodology involves analyzing successful global studies and applying these strategies to Syria’s conditions. Also, it introduces the concept of Cyber-Physical-Social Systems (CPSS) as an extension of CPS by highlighting human-technology cooperation. The framework seeks to create a resilient, efficient, and adaptable oil and gas sector by implementing phased pilot projects, targeted training programs, and infrastructure investment. This roadmap is intended to be a main step to support Syria’s economic recovery and build a sustainable energy sector.</ns3:p>
