Unlocking Superior Charge Storage with Nanosheet-Assembled Hollow FeCoTe Nanotubes

Nanostructured mixed metal tellurides (MMTs) have garnered considerable attention as a preeminent class of materials for advanced energy storage applications, owing to their exceptional electronic conductivity and superior electrochemical properties. In this study, nanosheet-assembled hollow FeCoTe nanotubes (H-FCT) were synthesized and evaluated as an effective positive electrode for hybrid supercapacitors. The deliberate integration of tellurium (Te) within the H-FCT matrix enhances charge transport kinetics, attributed to Te’s intrinsically high electrical conductivity. Concurrently, the hollow nanotubular morphology provides exceptional mechanical stability, mitigating conventional degradation mechanisms such as electrode pulverization and particle agglomeration. This structural integrity ensures long-term electrochemical performance under prolonged cycling conditions. Capitalizing on these synergistic structural and electronic advantages, the H-FCT-based electrode exhibits remarkable electrochemical performance, achieving a high specific capacity of 1050 ± 8 C g–1 at 1 A g–1 while retaining 68% of its capacity at high current density (48 A g–1). Furthermore, the electrode demonstrates exceptional cycling stability, retaining 89.33% of its initial capacity over 10,000 charge–discharge cycles, highlighting its outstanding durability. A key achievement of this work is the assembly of a hybrid supercapacitor device (H-FCT||AC), which delivers a high energy density of 62.92 Wh kg–1 at a power density of 850 W kg–1. These findings not only demonstrate the potential of telluride-based nanostructures for high-performance energy storage but also provide a foundational framework for their integration into next-generation electrochemical devices, such as hybrid supercapacitors and other advanced systems.
