Diagnosis with the FAM-C method of selected aviation defects of single-direction clutches of the MIG-29 airplane

<ns3:p>An indispensable element in multi-engine aircraft propulsion is the one-way clutch, which enables the transmission of mechanical energy from the engine turbine to the drive box and/or to the propellers. The Air Force Institute of Technology (AFIT) investigated the wear processes occurring in aircraft one-way clutches, identifying underload as the dominant issue. This underload leads to premature surface abrasion of the raceway, ultimately resulting in the loss of the kinematic connection between the driving and driven components. The initial stage of the wear processes of one-way clutches is difficult to detect using traditional methods (e.g. vibroacoustic), while the FAM C method developed at AFIT deals with this problem. Its operation is based on the analysis of the frequency modulation of the on-board generator. This method enables the monitoring of virtually all mechanical components of an aircraft. The paper also presents the DIA-KSA-CM diagnostic tester, which enables the measurement and analysis of data in a semi-automatic system.</ns3:p>
