Extreme climate events, network resilience and quality of supply as a regulatory issue
This article will make the case for the necessity of regulatory programs that can mitigate the effects of extreme weather events in distribution system operator investment plans, in order to ensure the safety and reliability of the power supply. Such programs can either aim to decrease the recovery time of the network (for e.g. through network automation and advanced remote control of grid operations) or increase the resistance of the network equipment (for e.g. cabling of the overhead network).
