Using frequency variations to limit PV production in microgrid powered by a diesel generator
To reduce CO2 emissions and enhance operation efficiency, French Distribution System Operator (DSO) Enedis plans to equipe diesel generators with an algorithm that dynamically adjusts grid frequency based on real-time power consumption. This innovation allows photovoltaic (PV) producers to remain connected to diesel-powered microgrids. The algorithm levereges the grid code of PV inverters to limit PV production when power consumption decreases, preventing power from flowing back to the diesel generator and thus avoiding potential blackouts. A diesel generator prototype utilizing this algorithm has undergone rigorous testing in real-life environement, with the test results detailed in this article.
