Characteristics of arcs in air with axial blowing
In this study, air was blown on the arc from the axial direction and its speed was varied to investigate the arc characteristics. As the blowing flow speed increased, the current value at the arc voltage extinction peak became smaller and the arc voltage value became larger. From the serially-connected three arc model with one Cassie model and two Mayr models, the relationship between flow speed and the arc time constant of the Mayr model was inversely proportional. If the gas flow speed is known, the arc time constant of the Mayr model can be estimated. Furthermore, the arc voltage can be calculated by the radial temperature distribution of the arc. To calculate the radial temperature distribution, dimensions of the circuit breaker and gas flow speed are required. The parameters of the Mayr arc model can be estimated from the dimensions of the circuit breaker nozzle and other components and the gas flow speed.
