Connection phase computation using Linky smart meter PLC communication data

Knowing the connection phase of electric grid consumers is key to keeping a good distribution of phases and maintain equilibrium. However, this information is still unknown to the main French distribution system operator (DSO). Enedis serves over 37 million customers and operates on three electric phases with a vast majority of consumers having a single-phase connection. This document describes the methodology deployed by Enedis in order to compute this missing information using graph theory over Power Line Communication (PLC) data. It also discusses the key challenges encountered regarding data collection, data quality and graph algorithm implementation. It concludes by highlighting some limitations of this approach and offering insights into potential future directions.
