ECOFLEX project: leveraging flexibility from low-voltage assets
The shift towards a more decentralised and decarbonised power system confronts distribution system operators’ contemporary operating practices. In this regard, the European Union stipulates system operators to procure flexibility services such as congestion management, or even to unlock the potential from distributed generation providers through demand response schemes. To harness this potential, a novel platform linking multi-energy resources and e-mobility with aggregators is introduced within the ECOFLEX project. The platform aims to be a stepping stone to leverage flexibility at low-voltage, without the flexibility providers being confronted to prerequisites which often form participatory barriers. Subsequently, the novel approach brings multiple local assetse.g.electric vehicles, heat pumps and battery energy storage systems at the disposal of aggregators. Furthermore, to fully benefit from demand-side management, an advanced energy management system is developed, as well as an electric vehicle smart charging scheduler. In pursuit of demonstrating the proposed solutions, three demo sites have been selected to validate all developments of the project.
