New method for arc suppression coil tuning using optimal frequency current injection
Due to extensive cabling and expanding network and arc suppression coil (ASC) sizes, distribution networks are becoming more symmetrical, while damping and detuning levels are rising. This creates a significant challenge for ASC tuning, leading to an increasing demand for sensitive and accurate tuning method. This paper presents new method for ASC tuning based on injection of current signal into network’s zero-sequence system via the power auxiliary winding of ASC. This innovative method is not based on injection with constant pre-selected frequencies, but on frequencies that are dynamically selected according to the prevailing damping and detuning values of the primary network. This is achieved by selecting the most optimal frequencies for the current injection based on the determined resonant frequency of zero-sequence system. This ensures optimal conditions for evaluating the tuning status of ASC, providing significant benefits over methods that use static frequencies.
