Enhancing power quality: investigation of photovoltaic systems in microgrid power systems
The rapid evolution of decentralized energy generation highlights the importance of maintaining power quality (PQ) in hybrid microgrid systems, particularly with the increasing integration of photovoltaic (PV) systems. This paper investigates PQ disturbances caused by power electronic converters and renewable energy sources. Through dynamic modeling and MATLAB Simulink simulations, it evaluates the impact of partial shading, nonlinear loads, and bidirectional power flows on voltage and frequency stability in microgrids. Key disturbances—including harmonics, voltage sags, swells, and flickers—are analyzed under varying grid conditions. A household PV system is modelled to explore these effects in a weak grid, emphasizing transient events like weather fluctuations and faults. By addressing these challenges, the study contributes to the development of robust PQ management, supporting the reliable and efficient integration of PV systems into microgrids.
