Monitoring harmonic voltage and current levels using smart meters
Smart meters were initially developed for billing purposes; however, the latest generation of smart meters incorporates significantly greater computational capabilities, opening new opportunities for monitoring the electrical grid. This paper focuses on leveraging smart meters to monitor harmonic voltage and current levels within the grid. This new smart meter generation possibilities coincided with the deployment of several DC electric vehicle chargers in the Gothenburg city area, which were found to be non-compliant with power quality standards.
