Design strategy for management system for MVDC distribution network
To achieve carbon neutrality, the utilization of distributed energy resources, such as solar energy and other renewable sourc es, along with the increasing power demand from electric vehicles (EVs) and DC data centres, is transforming the power distribution network environment. Consequently, technologies enabling the transition from traditional AC distribution networks to DC distribution networks are gaining attention. The implementation of Medium Voltage Direct Current (MVDC) distribution networks is anticipated, necessitating the establishment of operational systems. However, internationally, MVDC-related standards have not yet been defined, and operational decision-making algorithms utilizing component devices and DC data are not yet well established. Therefore, this paper proposes an operational system design for MVDC distribution networks that ensures flexibility in adapting to evolving conditions. The proposed system includes the Front-End Processor (FEP) server for collecting data from field terminal devices using various protocols and internal communication via middleware. Additionally, an API-based interface is introduced to facilitate seamless interaction with Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) servers, enhancing operational stability and responsiveness to external requests.
