Efficient asset risk/opportunity management at TAURON Dystrybucja: a new approach to investment optimization
The requirement to make the necessary investments in electricity distribution grids in a well-founded and comprehensible manner for stakeholders has increased against the background of aging infrastructure and the integration of renewable energy sources. To address these issues, the current investment governance system needs to be expanded to include a robust and systematic approach to asset risk and opportunity management. The implementation of an asset risk-based investment asset strategy at TAURON Dystrybucja, Poland’s largest distribution system operator (DSO), is described. By identifying, assessing, and prioritizing asset risks, TAURON Dystrybucja has developed a framework that enhances electricity grid reliability, optimizes resource allocation, and supports asset strategic and operational planning. This approach also facilitates efficiency-based investment decisions, contributing to the energy transition and sustainable development. The methodology, practical applications, and expected benefits are outlined.
