The analysis and selection of the design of MV submarine cables that will guarantee a safe and reliable supply, a long service life of the cable and environmental acceptability is the most important activity during preparatory activities on the replacement of dilapidated and the construction of new sections of MV submarine cables. The selection procedure for MV submarine cable designs is based on five basic criteria: moisture impact insulation design, mechanical design, thermal design, electrical design and design of factory joints. Based on the processed criteria and given environmental conditions on submarine cable routes, the most economically and environmentally acceptable design of MV submarine cables is chosen.
